I did some work for Seben-Europe - the company which sells loads of scopes
on E-bay, and got a discount on one of their 6 inch reflectors. I'm
impressed so far, the eq 3 mount is very sturdy with a lot less movement
than my previous scope. The only thing letting it down so far is the fixed
focus finderscope, still a minor point at this stage.

It won't be first light for me, I got a 4.5 inch reflector a month ago
(which is now for sale if anyones intrested) and from my experience with
that I'll be spending tonight making sure this new ones collimated.

How can you tell if a scope is not collimated. I too have a 4.5inch (Helios)
scope, but though I'm no expert and only get a featureless red disk for mars
(which is still puzzling), it seems okay.

type 'collimation' into google and you'll get a list of sites all about it.
Best way to see if anythings wrong is to point the scope at a bright surface
and look down the eyepiece tube with no eyepiece in place. basically you
should see the inside of the tube, the reflection from the primary mirror,
the reflection of the outline of the secondary mirror, the reflection of the
eyepiece tube and finally your eye. all these should be concentric (your eye
should be in the centre of the image with everything else equally spaced
around it) for a more accurate test drilla hole in the cap of a 35mm film
case and put it over the eyepiece holder, this will centralise your eye and
make it a little more accurate.

Did you go for the short or long focal length 6"er? Let me know how you get
on with it.

Chris

You should be happier with the longer focal length than I was with the
shorter one. I don't think the mirror was accurate enough for the shorter
focal length. Hence my curiosity with your level of satisafaction.
