Polishing and Multi-coating

Hi All,

I have an older(c. 1972) 60mm crown/flint doublet in need
of having some slight scratches polished out and then
multi-coated and correctly reassembled within its cell.
Naturally I would want to preserve the original figure
as much as possible.

Any recommendations, besides throwing it out?

The scratches on the outside surface won't be that hard to remove.
Get some pitch and CeO and hope that you don't have any coating on the
glass. If the scratches are actually cracked glass, you may need to do more
but most little scratches can be polished out without problems. You want a
spherical surface when you are done.
I'll also note that a few minor scratches usually don't affect the quality
of the image by that much, especially on a Dept. Store type of telescope.

What I have is a Japanese doublet and probably coated at best.
My father bought the telescope when I was 8, and I'd like to have
any and all scratches polished out, and then have the lenses
multi-coated, with the latter being something I cannot do.
Also, since the lenses have been out of their cell several
times over the decades, they were undoutedly replaced
out of their original order, therefore I'd need that aspect
tended to as well.
