The last time CO2 was regularly above 400ppm was three to five million years ago, say experts. Prior to 1800 atmospheric levels were around 280ppm, according to the US National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration (Noaa). We are doomed! Water world is coming! That is a good question. If the ice caps of Antarctica and Greenland all melted,
it's certainly true sea levels would rise, and some coastal areas would be flooded, but there would still be a lot of land above water. So the scenario in the movie "Waterworld" could not be the outcome of global warming. Of course, if a bunch of comets hit the Earth (gently!) to give it more water... or the continents somehow subsided so that the Earth's surface had fewer deviations from a sphere, although it's hard to think of any physically feasible way that could happen. John Savard Well, wasn't known the extent of the melt, people who survived or born later, didn't know if there's any land out there, like Columbus? Some humans, like Costner started to develop gills behind the ears too. But than, this a movie for entertainment and not a scientific fact! |

Just **** off the Abrahamic god. It likes to flood the Earth. The ancient flood narrative where the entire surface of the Earth was covered with water is really a strong hint at plate tectonics and the fact that sediment and marine fossils that once existed on the bottom of lakes eventually ended up on the top of mountains - https://www.pinterest.com/pin/353180795748768789/ The ancient authors introduced stories built around a cycle of creation/destruction and the fact that tectonic movement puts seashells on mountains makes those flood stories even more endearing, the fact that these people did notice the narrative between what is now evolutionary geology and biology. It is never going to appeal to those who sneer at everything while knowing nothing but behind those seemingly fantastic and improbably stories from antiquity there is something else going on slightly below the surface that those with grace and style will pick up on. The quality which connects the individual to the Universal is spirit and that Trinity is always central to a Christian passing through physical existence. It is there even for the most intransigent but the hard shell of pretense and the need to be 'right' prevents them from seeing that be inspired and being inspiring )spirituality) is the true nature of humanity. Far from being the docile form that it takes today, spirituality is that energy by which all creative and productive works are accomplished . |

A straw-man argument against a scientifically determined measurement? That's the best you can do? Based on current trends of the 21st Century, both the 20,000 foot sea-level rise of Waterworld and the 20 foot sea-level rise of the warmingistas are science fiction. (When did you last fly on a jet, Corny? Or drive an ICE vehicle?) |
