Defining the Equinox

No offence to the 'first point of aries' guys and their notion of the Sun's motion across an imagined celestial equator,the Sun coming into view on the Equinox at either the North or South pole creates the spectacle of two types of sunrises within a weekday and defines the Equinox -

Somebody at NASA actually sat down and manipulated imaging to define the Equinox as a moment when the circle of illumination becomes vertical and I will exclude the exclamation marks out of dismay -

Do not know why something as the extended polar dawn doesn't draw people towards polar sunrise in 3 weeks but such is our world at the moment -

The RA/Dec enthusiasts not only have the Sun moving North/South against the background stars but also doing a figure 8 analemma over a year. What to make of people sometimes so they become experts in magnification equipment and then pass it off as an interest in astronomy.

The health of any society in antiquity was always tied in with their astronomical understanding and left in buildings like the neolithic monuments or the Egyptians so when astronomy is in a poor state it also reflects a chaotic society at the social level.

If you ever looked at the sky, you would see that both of these things happen up there.

But I know, your kind of astronomy happens only inside your head, and looking at the sky would only confuse you. Better to misunderstand random gifs and Youtube animations so that they agree with your delusions of grandeur.

With about 17 days to the Equinox, the South pole would be around 17 degrees from the circle of illumination before the Sun comes into view for the first time in 6 months. Perhaps, like latitudes where the Sun comes into view each weekday due to daily rotation, there is a central point of luminescence before the Sun appears notwithstanding the daily rotational inputs which influence observations at the South Pole.
